The 3 Levels of Tithing: Level 3

Finally (See Level 1 & Level 2), after giving out of duty, and then seeing the blessings of God that flow, you enter the final stage – which is the “Loving to Give” stage. You’re better for it, and you get to be a part of blessing others. Why wouldn’t you want to do more of this?

Tithing is a matter of the heart
Tithing is a matter of the heart

You must be careful to make sure – as Jesus said, “But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.” (Mt 6:3-4)

Pride will try to creep in and you will want to tell everyone what a good person you are. Always keep in mind that God is the one who blesses and without Him you would have nothing to give. Give quietly and with a humble heart.

Tithing is a matter of the heart. We discussed the fact that tithing works as a method to bring you financial blessing even if your heart is hard. But this is not what God envisions for you. He wants you to grow to truly understand that He is using you to bless others in this world. And that as you do this, He will give you more so that you can bless even more people. As you understand this, your heart will be filled with joy to give. Here’s what Paul had to say about it…

“Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed; 9as it is written,”HE SCATTERED ABROAD, HE GAVE TO THE POOR HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS ENDURES FOREVER.” 10Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness; 11you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God. 12For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God. 13Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all, 14while they also, by prayer on your behalf, yearn for you because of the surpassing grace of God in you. 15Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Cor 9:6-15)

Now that you see yourself as the administrator of God’s financial blessings, your eyes will be open to new opportunities to give. God does not clearly define how we are supposed to give goodwill offerings, but leaves that to us. As you walk closer and closer with Him, He will lead you to those you should help. Don’t “throw pearls to pigs” (Mt 7:6) and give indiscriminately to anyone that asks. You should give where God is leading you to give. He does not call you to fund every great cause. There are too many for you to fund. Be prayerful about where He is calling you to make an impact. The blessings will increase as you see the situations He leads you into develop.
