Could the Lord have been showing us something as Colorado Springs caught fire? Today, we’ll look into what it might possibly mean. Yesterday, we posted a random factoid about Washington DC being built on the original site of Rome, Maryland. Today, we’ll keep the randomness going by sharing an interesting observation. It’s not particularly important to me whether this is a sign or simply a random event, but I share it for your discernment since I believe the Lord brought it to my mind.
I do not stay particularly aware of the news. I don’t watch TV or read the newspaper. I do sometimes catch a little random news on the radio when driving around. I do keep up with a lot of news that relates to financial markets and economies online. This means that I stay pretty aware of what’s going on politically & governmentally because politicians throughout the western world have made manipulating the economy their main job. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to keep up with economic and financial events without following politicians today.
Weather events however are pretty much outside the scope of things that I think about it…unless I step outside and experience it myself.
That being said, I did become aware that fires ravaged Colorado Springs recently. I really don’t know much detail about this, but as our little fellowship was meeting last week a realization hit me. Colorado Springs is the capital of the Church in America! At least in my mind it is. You might think very differently on the subject. I guess most people of a denomination might think of the city where their denomination is headquartered as the being the center of it all.
But I’ve known for a long time that that Colorado Springs has a tremendous number of ministries that call it home. That being said, I couldn’t really name one off the top of my head. I had just always heard of things being located there. I decided to do a quick google search. I found a site that listed many ministries. Many sounded like big national or international ministries, but here were the ones that stood out to me as being very large….
YWAM
Young Life
Campus Crusade for Christ
Focus on family
Salvation Army
Compassion international
Those are all huge! Is there another city that has 6 such large ministries? Maybe there is, I haven’t researched this, but I felt this was compelling. I haven’t researched this much at all, and these could be regional offices, but I don’t think that diminishes the point.
We’ve shared before that the Lord is going to totally remake the Church in much the same way that he remade His people 2000 years ago. Remember that judgement begins with the house of God! This post is not to go deep into this topic, but here’s a quote from Paul which talks about the Lord’s willingness to do away with those who no longer represent Him.
“for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either. Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.” (Romans 11:21, 22 NASB)
I don’t put this sign before you to try to convince you of anything. This in itself would not have convinced me of the big changes that are coming. The Lord did that by teaching me in Isaiah. This is just one more sign to me that adds to the certainty. I’m also not trying to say that any of these ministries are particularly bad. I certainly have some positive thoughts about several of them although I’ve never been particularly involved with any of them.
Instead, I bring this to you to open up to you the possibility that big changes are coming. I hope and pray that you will put all ideas of what is of God before Him at all times and look to Him to lead you. I suggest to you that what God used in the past is not what He will be doing in the future. Continue to seek Him for guidance about what this means for you. He is the rock against which all other things will smash apart.
Hold on to only that which is eternal and be willing to let the rest go!
