We used to call Natural Disasters “Acts of God”, but I guess society didn’t like that term. Man doesn’t want to think of God as being all powerful down to the tiniest details of life. So today, we look at them all as happening by cosmic chance. Or if you’re a anarchist, communist, believer in one state government to rule all, you push a theory that Man himself is causing the increase in natural disasters and frequently manipulate data to form this conclusion. If they could only stop having their lead scientists stop getting caught manipulating data, or losing supposed data for government cash, they would probably have a lot more people believing them. As it is, many do believe this because they see a picture of a polar bear on an iceberg and really, who wants to kill polar bears?
Nevertheless, we’re going to stick with the traditional term “Acts of God” to mean tremendous disruptions in the physical earth which can include severe weather, earthquakes, v0lcanos, floods, etc. I want to say up front that I don’t have any particular knowledge of any particular event that’s coming up. It would not surprise me in the least if the “big one” that has been anticipated to happen in California finally occurs and changes life for many, but I don’t specifically know that will happen.
What I do know is this…
For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and to a blazing fire, and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind, and to the blast of a trumpet and the sound of words which sound was such that those who heard begged that no further word be spoken to them. For they could not bear the command, “ If even a beast touches the mountain, it will be stoned.” And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, “ I am full of fear and trembling.” But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.
The Unshaken Kingdom
See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven. And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “ Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.” This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:18-29)
We are blessed to live in a time when the Lord is pouring out His Spirit upon the earth. This is/will be absolutely amazing to some. And absolutely terrifying to others. Those things which are not eternal will be shaken.
For many, that means their entire lives will be shaken to the core. For others, that means that those areas of their lives which are still not rooted in The Rock, will be shaken away. For those of us that cling to the Lord and welcome His purifying our lives, the wonders of this time are/will be the incredible Life that the great heroes and prophets of past generations longed to see. (Matthew 13:17)
I believe the economic events that are fast coming to a head will have the biggest impact on day to day life for most. But the events in the physical world will certainly continue to grab the notice of all and be the biggest event to some. For example, since we first began writing this series and made this prediction, drought has swept the US and the corn crop has been severely damaged. Since this is the most important food staple in this country, it means our costs of living all increase in a time when many people are suffering financially. Things like this are meant to grab hold of our attention so that we lift our eyes and find the Lord’s hand.
Lord, help us to become ever more firmly rooted in you each day forward!
