The Praise of Daniel

A Storm is Coming that is far worse than anyone understands. Yesterday, we spoke about how you as a follower of Christ should prepare. Today, we’re going to briefly look at the Praise that Daniel gave when God gave him the dream which brought him favor with the king. The following is the Praise of Daniel interspersed with a few comments for us to keep in mind during the times ahead.

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
wisdom and power are his. (Daniel 2:20)

Daniel’s focus is on God. He is praising Him and fully aware that God has power and understanding over all things and has blessed and favored Daniel even though the world around him seems chaotic.

21 He changes times and seasons;
he sets up kings and deposes them.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning. (Daniel 2:21)

Daniel understands that God created everything and allows everything to happen within its season and is bringing about His purposes in all circumstances. (We’ll talk about this more tomorrow.) He sets up governments and He removes them when their part of the plan is finished.

22 He reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what lies in darkness,
and light dwells with him. (Daniel 2:22)

Daniel understands that God can and will reveal hidden mysteries of the world to him when he seeks God in faith for these things. This does not mean that Daniel gets to know every mystery as if it is some magic trick, but that as one who is set apart for God, God will give Daniel amazing hidden knowledge exactly when and where he needs it. God used Daniel to direct two kingdoms even though most in those kingdoms probably didn’t know Daniel’s name. God gave him the power and influence along with the wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and favor to direct circumstances.

In these coming days, God will raise up sons to represent His name and His kingdom to a struggling mankind. His light will shine in this darkness and He wants to bring you close to Him so you can be this light to the world. (Isa. 60:1-3) But you must willingly be set apart for Him.

23 I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers:
You have given me wisdom and power,
you have made known to me what we asked of you,
you have made known to us the dream of the king.” (Daniel 2:23)

In all things, Daniel understood that it was God who brought blessings. Daniel was not filled with pride at the powerful knowledge that he had. He understood that God had chosen to use Him and it was through God that this blessing came. Always keep your focus on Him!
